It goes without saying - that no individual ingredient or combination of ingredients are universally allergy-free. There are certain ingredients (pure botanicals and man-made synthetics) that have been known to irritate. 

Anita Grant is not responsible for any individual reaction to any particular ingredient or combination of ingredients in our products. Each product description on our website includes a full complete list of ingredients. People with sensitivities to any listed ingredient should not use the product. If in doubt always try an allergy patch test and if at any time irritation occurs, discontinue use of the product.

Please note that for hygiene reasons we can not refund products that have been opened and used.

To reiterate, if you have adverse reactions to ANY of the ingredients in ANY of our products, please do not purchase our products.

The list below is not exhaustive but will be updated periodically. If in doubt perform a patch test (inner elbow or behind the ear) prior to using any product. If redness, rash or other irritation occurs discontinue use.

If you are allergic to Wheat, Gluten or suffer from Coeliac/Celiac avoid these ingredients:

Photosensitive ingredients:
Certain essential oils (such as citrus) may make your skin and/or scalp sensitive to ultraviolet light the following should be used with care. Only 1.5% or less of a selected few individual essential oils have been used in our recipes. (ie: 1.5% = 1.5ml to 100ml base)

However the following essential oils are appropriate for use on children:

  • Roman Chamomile
  • Rose Absolute
  • Vanillin

If you have Sensitive Skin & Scalp avoid using the following essential oils: 

  • Lemongrass
  • Basil
  • Fennel
  • Rosemary
  • Lemon
  • Pine
  • Lime

If you suffer from dermatitis avoid using the following essential oils & absolute:

  • Ginger
  • Citronella
  • Pine
  • Geranium
  • Jasmine Absolute
  • Ylang Ylang

Although the cocoa bean allergen is destroyed through processing the cocoa bean into chocolate it still remains unknown as to how much of the allergen remains in the chocolate. 

Therefore, those allergic to chocolate should avoid using:

  • Cupuacu
  • Cocoa Bean Solids
  • Cocoa Butter (refined & unrefined)
  • Cocoa Powder
  • and of course Chocolate

Shea Butter

  • Those sensitive to latex may "break out" if they come in contact with Shea Butter.
  • Those with Psoriasis are heavily advised to conduct a patch test first before using Shea Butter. Shea helps cell regeneration, something that psoriasis sufferers don't need because psoriasis occurs when cells of the outer layer of skin regenerate too fast for the body to naturally slough off.
